Are You Drinking Too Much Coffee or Tea? Beware

The monsoon season is here, bringing cool drizzles that often tempt us to enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee. Many already have a habit of sipping coffee or tea in the morning and evening. As a result, it's easy to end up drinking five to six cups a day. However, overconsumption of tea or coffee can pose health risks. While moderate intake can be beneficial, excess consumption may lead to harmful effects.

Health experts warn that drinking more than two cups a day could increase the risk of diabetes and obesity. Studies have shown that sucrose in tea and coffee can negatively affect the liver, muscles, and intestines. Consuming five or more cups daily may result in severe health complications.

Some of the issues associated with excessive intake include:

Bloating

Gas trouble

Insomnia

Poor digestion

Excess caffeine can also increase calorie intake and lead to cholesterol build-up, potentially causing weight gain. Experts recommend that daily caffeine intake should not exceed 300 mg.

Drinking tea or coffee during meals is also discouraged, as it may hinder nutrient absorption. While some believe having tea or coffee after meals aids digestion or burns fat, health experts say this is a myth. Similarly, consuming tea or coffee on an empty stomach is not advisable. It’s better to drink them after having breakfast or a light snack.

In short: Enjoy your favorite hot beverages in moderation this monsoon, but be mindful of when and how much you consume to protect your health.
