Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to meet US President Donald Trump in Washington DC on February 13. During his visit, President Trump may also host a dinner for PM Modi. Although the Prime Minister’s office has not officially confirmed the details of his trip, media reports suggest these developments.
According to media reports, PM Modi is expected to arrive in Washington DC on the evening of February 12 after completing his visit to France. He will remain in the US capital until February 14, during which he is expected to meet with American corporate leaders and community figures.
Following his inauguration last Monday, President Trump mentioned in a conversation with reporters that PM Modi could visit the White House in February. The Indian side is eager for swift discussions between the leaders.
Reports indicate that the White House has stated that President Trump emphasized the need for India to purchase more defense equipment made in the US and to advance towards fair trade relations. Given the tariffs imposed by Trump on Canada, Mexico, and China, discussions on trade have become even more significant.
There is also discussion regarding Trump’s desire to reduce the trade deficit with India and to work more aggressively on US commercial interests in India during his tenure. This will involve a clear focus on outcomes.
Trump has indicated that he discussed the issue of illegal immigration with PM Modi and that they will “do the right thing.” India has already stated that it will bring back all Indian nationals who have entered the US illegally, as they have been identified as Indians. The scope of this issue remains uncertain, and managing the surrounding context is politically sensitive.
