Former U.S. President Donald Trump had long hoped to win the Nobel Peace Prize. He made several efforts toward that goal, often claiming that he had stopped seven wars and therefore deserved the honor. He even took credit for halting the India–Pakistan conflict. However, Trump maintained that he didn’t do any of this for the Nobel Prize but to save human lives.
Trump recently stated that he had stopped wars across the world and was now working to end the Pakistan–Afghanistan conflict. He also claimed credit for ending the Gaza–Israel war, saying it was the eighth war he had brought to a close. “I am a good man,” Trump declared, praising himself for his peace efforts.
Although the Nobel Peace Prize eluded him, Trump has now received another high honor. For his role in brokering the Gaza peace deal and facilitating the release of hostages, both Israel and Egypt have decided to honor him with their highest civilian awards.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced that Trump will receive the Presidential Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest civilian award. Egypt, meanwhile, will bestow upon him the Order of the Nile, its most prestigious national award.
According to President Herzog, Trump deserves these honors for his efforts to secure peace, ensure the safety of Israeli citizens, and for his unwavering support of Israel. The awards will be formally presented at a ceremony to be scheduled in the coming months.
Meanwhile, the process of hostage release in Gaza has begun. In the first phase, seven hostages were handed over to the Red Cross by Hamas, with more to follow. Hamas has already released a list of 20 hostages to be freed, while Israel has announced plans to release over 1,900 Palestinian prisoners as part of the peace agreement.
