Tensions between Israel and Iran continue to escalate as both nations engage in fierce missile and drone attacks. Israel has launched targeted strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, resulting in the deaths of several senior military officials and dozens of nuclear scientists.
According to international media reports, Israel's IDF is believed to be directly targeting Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iranian authorities have reportedly moved Khamenei and his family to a secure underground bunker in northeast Tehran.
Air Raid Sirens in Jerusalem
In retaliation, Iran has launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel. Even the highly praised Iron Dome defense system failed to intercept all incoming missiles, allowing several to penetrate Israeli airspace and cause significant damage in major cities such as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Israel’s military confirmed the presence of sirens in Jerusalem and acknowledged that several missiles managed to strike the region, despite attempts to intercept them mid-air. The Israeli air defense system was activated in the southwest region in response to the attack. International media outlet RT International reported large-scale fires in the city of Haifa, with at least four people injured in the strikes.
Khamenei May Be the Next Target
Media reports suggest that Israel's strikes may be narrowing in on Khamenei himself. A senior official told the Wall Street Journal that Ayatollah Khamenei could become the next primary target unless Iran agrees to dismantle its nuclear program or is forcibly prevented from rebuilding it.
Trump Vetoed Khamenei Assassination Plan
Two U.S. officials revealed that former U.S. President Donald Trump had vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Khamenei. When questioned, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declined to comment further but confirmed that the U.S. was informed in advance about military actions against Iran.
