Don’t Break Ties with a Strong Ally Like India

The U.S.’s approach toward India is raising eyebrows globally. While calling India a friend, President Donald Trump has been venting his frustration at New Delhi. Recently, he warned of imposing tariffs on India over its continued oil trade with Russia, escalating tensions between the two nations.

Amid this growing strain, Republican leader of Indian origin Nikki Haley issued a strong appeal to the U.S. administration. She urged President Trump not to distance the U.S. from a strong ally like India.

Questioning the apparent double standards, Haley asked, “Why is it wrong for India to buy oil from Russia, but okay for China?” She pointed out that China is the top buyer of oil from both Russia and Iran. “If China can be given a 90-day tariff exemption, why can’t India?” she asked.

Haley made it clear that alienating a democratic ally like India while sparing China sends the wrong message. Her remarks were shared in a post on the social platform X.
