The battle for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections has already begun. This time, actor and TVK president Vijay stepping into the fray has become a hot topic in political circles. On Saturday, he kicked off his massive election campaign in Trichy with the slogan “I Am Coming.” Under the banner of “Meet the People,” Vijay has announced that he will tour the state every Saturday and Sunday until December.
This campaign reminds many of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan’s Varahi Yatra in Andhra Pradesh. However, there is one big difference — while Pawan is busy looking for alliances, Vijay has made it clear that he will contest the elections single-handedly.
For the campaign, Vijay has readied a special high-tech bus. Iron grills have been installed on the roof to prevent anyone from climbing on it. The bus is also equipped with modern cameras and sound systems — strikingly similar to Pawan’s Varahi setup.
Meanwhile, Vijay has launched the ‘My TVK’ mobile app to boost party membership, aiming to enroll two crore members. Police, however, have imposed 25 strict conditions while granting permission for his rallies.
Currently, DMK and AIADMK are the dominant alliances in Tamil Nadu, with the BJP already strategizing in coordination with AIADMK to strengthen its position. Analysts believe that Vijay’s entry could split a large chunk of votes, making the contest more unpredictable.
How much impact Vijay can create will only be known after the elections. But one thing is clear — his entry has already raised the political temperature in Tamil Nadu.
