Nitish Kumar Era in Bihar Politics Nears End

The long political chapter of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in the state’s Assembly politics appears to be nearing its end, as he is expected to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha soon. Reports suggest that the veteran leader may step down from the Chief Minister’s post as part of a larger political transition within the ruling alliance.

Currently serving his tenth term as the Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar is likely to resign from the post after filing his nomination for the Upper House of Parliament. His move is being seen as a significant shift in Bihar’s political landscape, potentially marking the end of his long tenure in state-level politics.

Sources indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a key partner in the ruling NDA alliance in Bihar, is considering appointing a Backward Class (BC) leader as the next Chief Minister. The development is part of the party’s broader strategy to strengthen its political and social base in the state.

Meanwhile, another notable development is the possible political entry of Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, who is expected to formally take membership in the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) today. His induction into the party has sparked speculation about the next generation of leadership within the regional outfit.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Patna today, where key discussions are expected to take place regarding the selection of Bihar’s next Chief Minister. Political observers believe that the decision could be finalised soon after these consultations.

If the transition takes place as anticipated, it would mark a major turning point in Bihar politics, ending Nitish Kumar’s long-standing role at the helm of the state government while paving the way for a new leadership structure within the ruling alliance.
