In the Delhi liquor scam case, former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha, and a total of 22 others have received major relief. The Delhi Rouse Avenue Court ruled that the CBI failed to provide sufficient evidence to prove their involvement in the liquor scam, declaring them innocent. The court dismissed the cases filed by the CBI and formally discharged all the accused.
The CBI had registered cases alleging corruption in the formulation of the 2021–22 excise policy for liquor sales in the national capital. Cases were filed against then CM Kejriwal, Deputy CM Sisodia, Kavitha, and others. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also registered a money laundering case against Kejriwal and arrested him, leading to their imprisonment.
Kejriwal spent six months in Tihar Jail. Later, the Supreme Court granted him conditional bail. He was allowed bail during the election campaign period for canvassing but returned to jail after the campaign. The allegations of corruption against Kejriwal, who entered politics promising clean governance, had sparked nationwide debate.
After being declared innocent by the court, Kejriwal, along with Sisodia, addressed the media and became emotional. He stated that justice had finally prevailed. He alleged that despite being a sitting Chief Minister, he was dragged out of his house and sent to jail. He also criticized the BJP, accusing it of defaming them with corruption charges.
