President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today. She has officially communicated this acceptance to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Dhankhar had earlier stated that he was stepping down from his post due to health reasons. He also personally met the President and informed her about his decision.
The swift action by the President—accepting the resignation within 24 hours—has drawn attention. However, the opposition parties are alleging that there are strong political reasons and pressures behind the resignation. They claim the move is not merely due to health concerns.
BJP leaders, however, have strongly refuted these allegations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to Dhankhar, expressing hope for his speedy recovery. Dhankhar had recently undergone treatment at AIIMS, Delhi, for heart-related issues, and doctors reportedly advised him to take rest.
BJP leaders insist that the resignation is purely for health reasons and not driven by political motives. Dhankhar’s decision to step down with two years remaining in his term has sparked political debate, but with the President's approval, the matter appears to have reached a conclusion.
