The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Delhi has issued summons today to Aam Aadmi Party leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain. They are accused of large-scale irregularities in the construction of classrooms in government schools. Jain has been asked to appear on June 6, and Sisodia on June 9, according to the ACB summons. The summons were issued based on an FIR registered by the ACB on April 30.
It is alleged that a scam worth around Rs 2,000 crore took place in the construction of approximately 12,000 classrooms. During the previous AAP government, Sisodia held the portfolios of Finance and Education, while Satyendar Jain was in charge of Public Works and other departments. The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) report pointed out irregularities in the classroom construction project. The CVC Chief Technical Examiner also highlighted multiple defects in the project.
According to Madur Verma, Joint Director of ACB, no action has been taken on this report for the last three years. Verma revealed that an FIR was registered under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act based on the collected report.
BJP leaders Kapil Mishra, Harish Khurana, and Neelkanth Bakshi had filed complaints with the ACB in 2019. They alleged massive irregularities in classroom construction across three zones of Delhi. The report revealed that classrooms meant to be constructed at a cost of Rs 5 lakh were actually built at an inflated cost of around Rs 25 lakh. An investigation into these irregularities is currently underway.
