Rasaleela Effect: Senior Officer Suspended

In connection with the Rasaleela incident in Karnataka, the state government has suspended senior IPS officer K. Ramachandra Rao, who holds a DGP-rank position. Dr. Ramachandra Rao was serving as the DGP of the Civil Rights Enforcement Directorate at the Karnataka DGP office. After videos surfaced on social media allegedly showing him engaging in inappropriate behavior—kissing and intimate interactions with a female employee inside the office—the Siddaramaiah government took the matter seriously.

In this backdrop, the government immediately ordered an inquiry into the Rasaleela episode. Subsequently, Ramachandra Rao was suspended. The suspension orders noted that he violated service rules and behaved in an objectionable manner, causing embarrassment to the government. The orders also clearly stated that during the suspension period, he should not leave headquarters without prior permission.

However, Ramachandra Rao has claimed that the videos were morphed by someone to frame him. It is known that he approached the Home Minister seeking relief in this matter, but was not granted an appointment. The Rasaleela controversy became a topic of nationwide discussion. The videos were said to have brought disrepute to the Karnataka Police, which is why the government acted swiftly and removed him from duty without delay.
