In a move that has sparked nationwide outrage, the Delhi High Court has granted conditional bail to BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the infamous Unnao minor rape case, which had shaken the country.
The court granted bail while continuing CRPF security for the victim, citing strict conditions. Sengar was convicted for kidnapping and raping a minor girl in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, in 2017.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had sentenced Sengar to life imprisonment, taking into account not only the rape but also allegations that the victim’s father died in police custody and that Sengar had threatened the victim’s family.
However, in the latest development, the court set aside the life sentence in the rape case and granted bail with stringent conditions, a decision that has drawn sharp criticism.
Reacting emotionally, the victim questioned the verdict, saying, “My father was killed, I was raped. How can such a person be granted bail? What kind of justice is this?”
