The dreams of Donald Trump, who once longed for a Nobel Peace Prize, have been shattered. The Peace Prize has instead been awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader and courageous woman María Machado, who has been fighting peacefully for democratic rights and against authoritarian rule in her country.
As soon as the announcement was made, an idea flashed in the mind of a Congress leader in India. He was so pleased with his own thought that he congratulated himself — and decided not to keep it to himself but share it with the world on social media.
And what was this “brilliant” idea? He said Rahul Gandhi, Congress leader and son of Sonia Gandhi, too deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. The man behind this idea is Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput.
These days, Congress leaders across the country have been singing praises of Rahul Gandhi. They hail his attacks on Prime Minister Modi and his political struggles as heroic. This call for a Peace Prize fits right into that devotion. María Machado is fighting for democracy and constitutional rights in Venezuela — but what is Rahul Gandhi fighting for?
According to Surendra Rajput, it’s the same kind of struggle! “This year, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to the Venezuelan opposition leader who protected her country’s Constitution. In India, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi is also fighting to protect the Constitution,” he wrote in his social media post.
Rajput believes Rahul Gandhi is equally deserving of this prestigious award. The Congress party has long accused the NDA government of authoritarian behavior and undermining democratic values. They point to issues like alleged EVM hacking, deletion of voter names, and attempts to weaken reservations for backward classes — causes for which Rahul Gandhi has been persistently fighting.
The opposition also claims unemployment is soaring, the economy is weakening, and the rights of minorities and Dalits are being trampled. Rahul Gandhi often accuses Modi of trying to alter the Constitution — and carries a copy of it during his campaigns, symbolizing his fight to protect it.
So, Surendra Rajput says, Rahul Gandhi’s struggle is no less than María Machado’s — and he, too, should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. Congress leaders often say they won’t rest until Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister. Now, perhaps they’ll say they won’t rest until he gets the Nobel Peace Prize!
