Prajwal Revanna Convicted in Rape Case

A special court for People’s Representatives in Bengaluru on Friday convicted former MP Prajwal Revanna in a sexual abuse and rape case. The case pertains to the first FIR registered against him at the Holenarasipura Rural Police Station in Hassan district, Karnataka. The court had completed the trial on July 18 and reserved the verdict. The quantum of punishment will be announced on Saturday, August 2.

The case involves a 48-year-old woman who was working as domestic help at the Gannikada farmhouse owned by Prajwal Revanna's family in Holenarasipura. She alleged that Prajwal raped her twice in 2021 and recorded the act on his mobile phone.

In total, four separate cases have been filed against Prajwal Revanna on charges of rape and sexual harassment. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the allegations.

Prajwal Revanna, the grandson of former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader H. D. Deve Gowda, came under scrutiny after pen drives allegedly containing explicit videos involving him were circulated in Hassan ahead of the Lok Sabha elections on April 26, 2024.

He was arrested by the SIT on May 31, 2024, upon his arrival at Bengaluru Airport from Germany in connection with one of the cases registered at the Holenarasipura Town Police Station.

Prajwal failed to retain his Hassan seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Following the serious allegations and cases filed against him, the JD(S) suspended him from the party. He remains in judicial custody.
