Pakistan Seeks Peace Amid Pahalgam Tensions

Amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan’s ambassador to the US, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, has stated that Islamabad does not seek conflict with India. In an interview with Newsweek, Sheikh emphasized Pakistan's preference for “peace with dignity,” noting that while the country is not looking for war, it is prepared to defend itself if conflict is imposed.

Sheikh reiterated Pakistan’s traditional position on Kashmir, calling it the “world’s highest nuclear flash point,” and urged global powers, especially US President Donald Trump, to intervene and de-escalate tensions. He claimed that resolving such disputes could become part of Trump’s legacy as a peacemaker.

The statement comes as the US reaffirmed its support for India following the April 22 attack that killed 26, mostly Hindu pilgrims. US officials expressed solidarity with India’s anti-terror efforts, while President Trump maintained that India and Pakistan would “figure it out.”
