The ongoing Monsoon Session of the Indian Parliament has been disrupted for several days due to opposition protests over various key issues. These include:
The Election Commission’s special revision of the voter list in Bihar ahead of the state assembly elections,
The recent Pahalgam terrorist attack,
Operation Sindoor launched by Indian forces in response,
And repeated claims by former U.S. President Donald Trump about mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
The INDIA alliance MPs have been demanding discussions on these topics through adjournment motions and have staged large-scale protests in the House. As a result, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have faced repeated adjournments over the last four days, often stalling within minutes of starting.
In an effort to restore order, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla convened an all-party meeting today. During the meeting, he reportedly urged opposition leaders to cooperate and allow productive discussions, especially during the Question Hour. In response, opposition MPs have reportedly agreed to cooperate for the smooth functioning of the House. As a result, parliamentary proceedings are expected to run normally from Monday.
