This year, the monsoon is advancing faster than usual and is expected to reach Kerala about a week early, making it the quickest in 16 years. The weather department says conditions are favourable for early rain in many parts of India. There is even a rare chance that both Karnataka and Kerala may receive rainfall at the same time. This early arrival offers hope for relief from the intense summer heat.
Typically, the monsoon hits Kerala by late May and covers the whole country by July 8. It can slow down in Central India, even if it begins early. The strength and consistency of the rains are what determine how fast it spreads across the country. For now, signs point toward a healthy monsoon season.
By the end of May, rain may reach not just Kerala but parts of South India and the North East. Most of India, including Delhi, could experience rainfall earlier than the usual schedule.
