The Indian government has revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign visits between 2021 and December 2024 cost the exchequer approximately Rs 295 crore. The data was disclosed in a written reply by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in the Rajya Sabha, in response to a question by TMC MP Derek O’Brien.
Key Details:
Total cost (2021–Dec 2024): Rs 295 crore
The France visit in 2025 alone cost over Rs 25 crore
The June 2023 U.S. visit cost over Rs 22 crore
Earlier this year, the government also reported that PM Modi undertook 38 foreign trips from 2022 to December 2024, which alone incurred an expenditure of about Rs 258 crore.
Countries Visited (2021–2024)
PM Modi visited a wide range of countries including the USA, Japan, Germany, Kuwait, Denmark, France, UAE, Nepal, Indonesia, Australia, Egypt, South Africa, Greece, Poland, Ukraine, Russia, Italy, Brazil, Guyana, Bangladesh, and the UK.
Year-wise Breakdown:
2024: PM visited 16 countries, including Russia, Ukraine, US, and Brazil, with a total cost of approximately Rs 109 crore.
2023: About Rs 93 crore was spent, including Rs 22 crore for the US visit and Rs 11.90 lakh for promotional work in Egypt.
2022: Expenditure was Rs 55.82 crore. Countries visited included Germany (Rs 9.44 crore), Denmark (Rs 5.47 crore), France (Rs 1.95 crore), Nepal (Rs 80 lakh), and Japan (Rs 8.68 crore).
2021: Modi's trips to Bangladesh, USA, Italy, and the UK cost the government Rs 36 crore.
2025 Foreign Visits (So Far):
Estimated cost: Rs 67 crore+
France: Rs 25.59 crore
USA: Rs 16.54 crore
Thailand: Rs 4.92 crore
Sri Lanka: Rs 4.46 crore
Saudi Arabia: Rs 15.54 crore
PM Modi also visited Mauritius, Cyprus, Canada, Croatia, Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia in 2025, but expenditure details for these trips have not yet been disclosed.
