ISRO successfully carried out a commercial mission by placing the American communication satellite BlueBird Block-2 into orbit on Wednesday morning. The satellite was launched aboard the heavy-lift LVM3-M6 rocket from the second launch pad at Sriharikota.
After a 24-hour countdown, the LVM3 rocket lifted off at 8:55 AM. The rocket, about 43.5 meters tall and equipped with S200 solid boosters, performed flawlessly. Around 15 minutes after liftoff, the BlueBird Block-2 satellite was successfully injected into its intended orbit at an altitude of about 520 kilometers, according to ISRO.
The launch was conducted as part of a commercial agreement between NewSpace India Limited (NSIL) and US-based AST SpaceMobile. The satellite will operate in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and is designed to provide mobile communication services, including 4G and 5G voice calls, video calls, text messages, streaming, and data services anytime and anywhere.
BlueBird Block-2 is being described as the largest commercial communications satellite deployed in Low Earth Orbit.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh congratulated the ISRO team on the successful mission, praising them for effectively implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. He said ISRO continues to demonstrate India’s growing capabilities in space technology by achieving one success after another.
