In a landmark ruling, a Gujarat court has sentenced three men — Kasim, Sattar, and Akram — to life imprisonment for slaughtering a cow in Amreli district. The verdict was delivered by Judge Rizwana Bukhari, who noted that the accused committed the act despite being aware that cows are considered sacred by many in the country.
The court also imposed a combined fine of Rs 6.08 lakh on the three convicts.
Judge Rizwana stated, “Despite knowing cows are considered sacred… they committed such act,” underscoring the gravity of the offense under Gujarat’s stringent cattle protection laws.
Calling the judgement “historic,” the Gujarat government welcomed the ruling. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi took to social media to hail the verdict as a “new era of justice.”
