Jaishankar’s First Reaction After Operation Sindoor

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar gave his first remarks following Operation Sindoor, emphasizing that India met its objectives by targeting and destroying terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan. Speaking in New Delhi after inaugurating the Honduras embassy, Jaishankar clarified that India had informed Pakistan beforehand that the military was not the target — only terror camps. “They chose not to heed that advice,” he said, noting Pakistan only sought a ceasefire after suffering heavy damage on May 10, which satellite images have confirmed.

Jaishankar further announced that the Indus Waters Treaty has been suspended and will remain so until Pakistan verifiably halts cross-border terrorism. He also reiterated India's position on Kashmir, stating that the only issue left to discuss is the return of Pakistan-occupied Indian territory. “We are open to that discussion,” he added firmly.

On trade talks with the U.S., Jaishankar cautioned that negotiations are complex and ongoing, and no final conclusions should be drawn yet.
