DK Shivakumar sets timeline for local polls

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said that the Congress has pledged to conduct elections to all local bodies in 2026. He stated that the government will have to hold the pending Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections, which have been due since 2021, within the next two to three months, and asked party leaders to prepare accordingly.

He said the Congress has begun issuing application forms to aspirants seeking party tickets for the five city corporation elections that will come under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA).

Shivakumar said that peace and happiness of the people are the government’s top priority and that efforts are being made in that direction. He added that the Congress government delivered good governance in 2025, citing the Global Investors Meet, Bengaluru Tech Summit, fulfillment of manifesto promises, and key decisions in the irrigation sector such as the Upper Krishna Project, Tungabhadra, and Mekedatu projects.

As the Water Resources Minister, Shivakumar said that in his 36 years of political life, he has never seen previous governments implement such historic programmes and projects.
