Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar dismissed speculation about any set ‘formula’ for the chief minister’s post stating that the Mahayuti alliance partners—BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP—would jointly decide on the matter. Following the alliance’s sweeping victory securing 230 of 288 assembly seats Pawar emphasized their strong mandate left the opposition without enough numbers to claim the leader of the opposition’s post.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis emerged as a potential candidate for a third term as CM after the BJP won 132 of the 149 seats it contested. Pawar reaffirmed their commitment to providing a stable government and indicated discussions would determine cabinet formation.
Crediting the Mahayuti’s success to initiatives like the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme, which financially empowers women, Pawar thanked women voters for their support. He defended the scheme, emphasizing its thoughtful planning and its role in the government’s agenda.
