Despite having no prior legislative experience, newly elected Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta faced questions on Friday about how it felt to secure the state's top position in her very first term as an MLA. When asked by a national media representative, she responded in her signature style, saying that when she was given such a high position, she felt like the heroine from the Bollywood film Nayak.
During the conversation, Rekha Gupta also referred to a poem by Urdu poet Rahat Indori, quoting, "I am not just a leaf that falls from branches; someone tell the storm to stay in its limits." She further stated that becoming the Chief Minister of Delhi was never her dream; she simply focused on doing her work. She emphasized that her appointment was not a stroke of luck but a responsibility entrusted to her out of respect for women. She expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the opportunity.
In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, Rekha Gupta was elected as an MLA for the first time, winning from the Shalimar Bagh constituency. Out of the 70 assembly seats, the BJP secured 48 seats, forming the government. The BJP high command then appointed Rekha Gupta as Chief Minister despite her lack of prior legislative experience.
