Congress High Command Means Only Gandhi Family

In most political parties, when someone refers to the "high command," it's generally assumed to be the party president. People believe that the party chief is the ultimate authority and decision-maker. But in the Congress party, things are quite different. Here, the term "high command" unmistakably refers to Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. And this fact was subtly acknowledged by the current Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge himself.

Kharge's statements indicate that he holds the post of president only in name, without real power or decision-making authority. This was evident in his recent interaction with the media. Especially in Telangana, Congress leaders rarely mention Kharge — they always invoke the name of Rahul Gandhi. Any decision, action, or direction is said to be as per Rahul’s instructions, never Kharge’s. The same pattern is observed across other states as well.

As the Congress prepares for the next general elections, party leaders have openly stated that their goal is to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister. But here’s the real issue — rumors are swirling that Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah may be replaced following the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed several lives, tarnishing the Congress government’s image. Reports suggest that Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar might be elevated to the top post.

When asked about this, Kharge stated that the matter falls under the jurisdiction of the party high command. He clearly said that only the high command has the authority to make such decisions, and nobody knows what it truly thinks. The power lies with them, and future decisions will come from that level. He urged the media not to create unnecessary controversy.

From Kharge’s remarks, it's apparent that the "high command" means Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and possibly Priyanka Gandhi. Essentially, Kharge has admitted that he holds no real power in decision-making — his role is symbolic.

Reacting to this, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya ridiculed the Congress, asking who this unseen "high command" really is, if not the elected party president. “Is the high command some invisible ghost? It can’t be seen or heard, but people are made to believe it exists,” he said mockingly. “Kharge is assumed to be the high command, but he himself denies it,” he added.

Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka also questioned, “If it’s not you, Kharge, then is the high command Rahul, Sonia, Priyanka, or some mysterious committee?” He further stated that in Congress, not even chief ministers have autonomy — not even the national president. The real power lies solely with the Gandhi family.
