Change in Gmail Login Method: SMS Replaced with QR Code

Updates related to features are constantly being introduced across platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter). Now, Google has rolled out an update for Gmail, focusing on enhancing user security. What is this update, and what benefits does it bring? Let’s take a look in this article.

Until now, when logging into Gmail, Google would send a 6-digit authentication code via SMS to the registered mobile number to verify user identity. However, Google is planning to retire this method soon. In its place, a QR code will be introduced. This new method is aimed at improving security for users.

Once the QR code system is implemented, instead of the 6-digit authentication code, a QR code will appear. Users will simply need to scan the code using their phone’s camera. This will help reduce SMS-based fraud and attacks. Given the rise of cybercriminals, Google has decided to implement this change.

Although the QR code-based login method is being introduced, there’s no official word on when it will be rolled out. It’s expected that this update will be available soon.
