Chains on Vijay’s Political Momentum

Chains on Vijay’s Political Momentum

He arrived like a tidal wave. With the same force, he announced his party name, flag, and agenda. He stormed into the public, winning hearts with fiery words. On one side, sharp attacks on political rivals; on the other, massive public support. Observing both, political analysts predicted that Vijay was unstoppable. Many even believed he could emerge as the next leader to wield influence after MGR and Jayalalithaa. But now, invisible chains seem to have fallen on Vijay’s political career.

Vijay’s battle is directly against ruling powers — not one, but two. In Tamil Nadu, he is targeting the DMK, and at the Centre, the BJP. He repeatedly tells people that a vote for the DMK ultimately benefits the BJP.

Even at yesterday’s rally in Karur, he made the same comments, leaving no doubt about his target. His plan is clear — to stay away from alliances and aim for power on his own. His dream is to emerge as the single largest party by winning the maximum seats.

The target was good, and the public support matched it. There was no shortage of funds either. Just when everything seemed set, tragedy struck in Karur. The stampede claimed lives. Vijay responded by announcing compensation and expressing condolences to the bereaved families. But politically, he walked straight into a trap.

It’s not just the Tamil Nadu government; even the Centre is reportedly weighing how to use this incident to its political advantage. While trying to put a check on Vijay, parties are also eyeing ways to gain mileage. However one looks at it, this tragedy is turning into a major speed breaker for Vijay’s political future.

Across the country, many political leaders are already under pressure from legal cases. Bringing up cases against rivals, using ED and CBI probes as indirect warnings — these have become common. Vijay, who has only just stepped into politics, now risks joining that list.

The first step has already been taken. Some petitioners, including families of the victims, have approached the Madras High Court seeking a ban on Vijay from holding any more rallies. Meanwhile, the death toll from the Karur tragedy has risen to 40.
