The Monsoon Session of Parliament continued for the fourth consecutive day without any productive discussion. Chaos and protests by opposition MPs disrupted proceedings once again on Thursday, leading to the adjournment of both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha till Friday.
Thursday’s session began at 11 AM with both Houses convening as scheduled. However, as soon as the Lok Sabha commenced, opposition MPs staged strong protests, particularly against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list in Bihar. Holding placards, they demanded a debate on the issue and insisted on taking up discussion on their adjournment motions.
Despite repeated appeals from Speaker Om Birla, the protesting MPs did not relent, causing a ruckus in the House. Expressing displeasure over the disruptions, the Speaker initially adjourned the Lok Sabha till 2 PM. However, when the House reconvened in the afternoon, the protests continued unabated, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House for the rest of the day.
A similar situation prevailed in the Rajya Sabha, where uproar by opposition members led to repeated disruptions. With no signs of resolution, both Houses were adjourned till tomorrow.
Key Demands of the Opposition:
An immediate discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voters' list in Bihar, particularly in the run-up to the Assembly elections.
Debate on the Pahalgam terrorist attack and Operation Sindoor.
Clarification on former U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he had mediated a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan.
As the deadlock continues, all eyes are on whether any meaningful proceedings will take place in the coming days of the Monsoon Session.
