The Bombay High Court has dismissed a petition challenging the 2024 Maharashtra Lok Sabha election results, calling the plea baseless and a "waste of the court's time."
The petitioners had alleged a suspicious and unexplained spike in late voting numbers and demanded a probe into potential irregularities. However, the court questioned the lack of concrete evidence, stating, “Where is the evidence? A whole day of this court was wasted in hearing this petition. Costs should be imposed on them only.”
The court's strong remarks have drawn attention, especially as the issue of late voting had earlier been raised by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who questioned the delay in releasing final voter turnout data.
Following the verdict, the Election Commission of India (ECI) told NDTV, “The doubts raised by Rahul Gandhi have been settled by the court.” The ECI maintained that all due processes were followed, and the results were legitimate and in line with electoral norms.
With the court’s ruling, the controversy over Maharashtra’s voting pattern appears to have been legally closed, though political debates may still continue.
