The tragic stampede at Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, which resulted in the deaths of 11 people, has left the entire nation in shock. Social media has been flooded with condolences and expressions of grief over the horrifying incident. However, the tragedy has also sparked intense backlash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and its star player Virat Kohli, with netizens holding them responsible.
FIRs have already been filed against RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and the event organizers. Amid this, the hashtag #ArrestKohli has started trending on social media platforms, with many demanding the cricketer’s arrest for allegedly being one of the reasons fans gathered in such overwhelming numbers, leading to the stampede.
The incident has drawn comparisons to a similar tragedy in Hyderabad during a special screening of Pushpa 2, where a woman lost her life in a stampede outside Sandhya Theatre. Fans blamed actor Allu Arjun’s presence for the crowd frenzy, and he was briefly detained despite police warnings against parading near the theatre.
Now, fans of Allu Arjun are pointing out the double standards, questioning whether the Congress-led Karnataka government will arrest Virat Kohli just like their Telangana counterparts did with Arjun. They argue that it was Kohli’s presence that drew massive crowds to the stadium, ultimately leading to the fatal incident.
As a result, the hashtag #ArrestKohli continues to trend, igniting a heated debate on celebrity accountability during public events.
