Rajinikanth Wanted to Propose to Sridevi

When it comes to proposing love, even ordinary youngsters often prepare deeply. So imagine what kind of preparation it would take for a superstar to propose to a top actress! That’s exactly what Superstar Rajinikanth did — he prepared himself to say “I love you” to the iconic beauty Sridevi and even wanted to talk about marriage.

But no matter how big a star he was, fate had other plans. With a heavy heart, Rajinikanth had to step back. So, what exactly happened that day?

Sridevi had just built a new house and invited everyone for the housewarming ceremony. Rajinikanth thought it was the perfect occasion to express his love. He got fully ready and attended the event with that intention in mind. But the moment he stepped into her new home — the power went out and the entire house was plunged into darkness.

Rajinikanth was shocked. He took it as a bad omen. Feeling that it was not the right time, he chose to walk out without expressing his feelings. This story was personally revealed by renowned filmmaker K. Balachander.

Later, Rajinikanth never brought up his feelings to Sridevi again. However, they went on to act in several blockbuster films together and shared great on-screen chemistry.

Interestingly, at one point, there was also a marriage proposal for Sridevi from Kamal Haasan’s side. It was initiated by Sridevi’s mother, who wished to see her daughter marry Kamal — as they were a hugely successful on-screen pair. But Kamal Haasan immediately rejected the idea, stating in several interviews later that he never saw Sridevi in that way.

So, despite being admired by two of Indian cinema’s biggest legends, destiny had a different path for Sridevi.
