Veteran Actor Kota Srinivasa Rao Passes Away

Veteran Tollywood actor Kota Srinivasa Rao has passed away. He had been suffering from health issues for some time and breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday. Over a career spanning four decades, Kota portrayed a wide range of roles and won the hearts of audiences. His talent was not confined to Telugu cinema alone—he also made a mark in Tamil and Hindi films.

Kota Srinivasa Rao was born on July 10, 1942, in Kankipadu. His father, Seetha Ram Anjaneyulu, was a doctor, and Kota initially aspired to follow in his footsteps. However, his interest in acting led him towards theater. Before entering films, he worked at the State Bank. He made his film debut in 1978 with the movie Pranam Khareedu. His last Telugu film was Suvarna Sundari.

He entered Tamil cinema in 2003 with Saamy and earned considerable recognition there as well. His last Tamil movie was Kaathadi in 2018. In Bollywood, he debuted with Pratighaat in 1987 and last appeared in Baaghi (2016). He also acted in Kannada films, starting with Lady Commissioner in 1997, and his last Kannada movie was Kabzaa in 2023. Apart from acting, Kota contributed as a dubbing artist and singer in some films.

In a film career that spanned over 40 years, he acted in around 750 films. He received 9 Nandi Awards, a SIIMA Award, and was honored with the Padma Shri in 2015. His influence extended beyond cinema—he also made a mark in politics. He joined the BJP in the 1990s and was elected as the MLA from Vijayawada East in 1999.
