Usually, daily wage workers earn around Rs 100–Rs 200 a day. But this is no ordinary worker — this is a high-value coolie. Superstar Rajinikanth reportedly received a whopping Rs 150 crore remuneration for his upcoming film Coolie. And yes — the entire amount is said to be within the tax net.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Coolie has been made on a massive Rs 375-crore budget. Along with Rajinikanth, the film stars Nagarjuna, Aamir Khan, and Upendra. However, after Rajini, the next highest-paid person wasn’t another actor but the director himself — Lokesh Kanagaraj — who earned Rs 50 crore. That means the hero and director alone took home Rs 200 crore out of the total budget.
In a first, Nagarjuna plays the villain, with reports suggesting he was paid between Rs 24 crore and Rs 30 crore. Upendra reportedly took a nominal fee, while Aamir Khan acted for free out of admiration for Rajinikanth.
Apart from the production budget and remunerations, another Rs 25 crore has been allocated for promotions. The film is already setting new records in advance bookings. In the US, Coolie has crossed the $1-million mark in advance sales, while in India, bookings have exceeded Rs 20 crore. Trade analysts predict that the film could gross around Rs 150 crore on its opening day in India alone.
