The man behind Coolie Movie

Some projects have very interesting stories behind them. Sometimes, they get set in completely unexpected ways. There’s a similar story behind the soon-to-be-released Coolie.

On one hand, Rajinikanth was doing back-to-back movies. On the other, director Lokesh Kanagaraj was delivering consecutive hits. While working on other films, Lokesh was also trying hard to collaborate with the Superstar. In fact, he had been making efforts for three years without success.

Music director Anirudh also wanted to see Rajinikanth and Lokesh work together. But no one had brought up the topic directly. One day, in the middle of a conversation, Lokesh revealed to Anirudh that he had been trying for three years to make a film with Rajinikanth.

Not only that, Lokesh also narrated a 20-minute story outline to Anirudh. After hearing it, Anirudh immediately messaged Rajinikanth. The reply came at once. The very next day, Lokesh and Anirudh met Rajinikanth and narrated the story.

Rajinikanth suggested a few changes. Lokesh made the adjustments on the spot, and Rajinikanth instantly gave his approval. Just like that, things moved quickly and Coolie took shape — thanks in part to Anirudh’s effort. He himself recently revealed this behind-the-scenes story.
