Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal has officially announced her separation from her husband and fellow shuttler Parupalli Kashyap. Bringing an end to their seven-year marriage and a two-decade-long friendship, Saina shared the news via social media.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2018 after years of companionship, have now decided to part ways amicably.
“Sometimes in life, we are led in different directions. After much thought and reflection, Kashyap and I have mutually decided to separate. We are choosing peace, growth, and healing — for ourselves and for each other. I am grateful for the memories we created, and I hope our privacy is respected during this time,” Saina wrote in an emotional post on Instagram.
The announcement came as a shock to fans and the sports community, as the couple always appeared supportive of each other — both on and off the court. They were often seen cheering for one another at tournaments and were admired as a power couple in Indian badminton.
Saina Nehwal, a former world number one and Olympic bronze medalist, has been a trailblazer for Indian women in sports. Parupalli Kashyap, too, has had a decorated career, having represented India in several international events, including the Commonwealth Games.
While the exact reasons for their separation remain private, the mutual respect and maturity reflected in Saina’s message have been widely appreciated.
