The Income Tax (IT) Department has now made the Income Tax Return Form-2 (ITR-2) available for online filing. This update allows individual taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs) with income from capital gains, along with other taxable sources, to file their returns for the Financial Year 2024–25 (Assessment Year 2025–26) through the IT Department's e-filing portal.
The announcement was made on Friday via the department’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter). This move follows the earlier release of simplified ITR-1 and ITR-4 forms in June, aimed at easing the process for small and medium taxpayers.
It’s worth noting that the central government recently extended the ITR filing deadline from July 31 to September 15, giving taxpayers additional time to comply.
With the introduction of online filing for ITR-2, expectations are that return filing activity will now gain further momentum.
