Vivek Agnihotri Slams Mumbai's Urban Planning

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri sparked a fresh debate after sharing a video of severe waterlogging at Mumbai’s posh Napean Sea Road following the first heavy rainfall of the season. On May 26, Agnihotri posted the clip on X, criticizing India’s poor urban planning. He called the situation a “scam wrapped in a sham” and highlighted how even elite areas housing billionaires and top officials flood after just one rain spell.

His post quickly gained traction online, resonating with citizens in cities like Delhi and Bengaluru, who often suffer due to similar infrastructure failures. The Indian Meteorological Department confirmed that this year’s monsoon arrived early in Mumbai on May 26. An orange alert was issued for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar due to expected heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Professionally, Agnihotri is preparing for The Delhi Files, with its first part, Bengal Chapter, set to release in 2025. His last film, The Vaccine War, released in 2023.
