Bollywood actress Vaani Kapoor has deleted all posts related to her upcoming film Abir Gulaal from social media after the Indian government officially banned the film. The move follows the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed 26 lives and led to increased scrutiny of cross-border collaborations. Abir Gulaal was set to mark Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood after nine years, but mounting backlash forced the project to be shelved in India.
Ever since the film was announced, Vaani faced heavy criticism for working alongside a Pakistani actor. The attack in Pahalgam further intensified public outrage, and several political groups issued warnings against allowing the film’s release. Though Vaani condemned the attack, she remained silent on the controversy over collaborating with banned Pakistani artists. Her quiet deletion of promotional content appears to be a step toward distancing herself from the now-banned film.
Meanwhile, the Indian government has also banned the social media handles of several popular Pakistani celebrities, including Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, Mahira Khan, and Hania Aamir, citing rising tensions and national sentiment.
