Thug Life, released by Nithiin's father Sudhakar Reddy, has turned out to be a box office disaster. Despite high expectations, the film flopped right on its opening day and failed to pick up momentum over the weekend. By Monday, it completely crashed.
In Andhra Pradesh and Nizam, the movie managed to collect only Rs 2 crore in share revenue during the first weekend. On Monday, its performance worsened, with many shows being canceled in Hyderabad due to poor occupancy. Starting today, most theaters have reportedly dropped the film.
The movie also performed poorly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Despite being released in a large number of theaters in Tamil Nadu, it grossed just around Rs 2 crore on Monday, indicating its weak reception. Trade experts now say it may not even reach Rs 50 crore in Tamil Nadu.
In Kerala, the movie has been a total washout. Overall, Thug Life seems unlikely to reach the Rs 100 crore global mark and is now being considered one of the biggest box office disasters of all time.
Following the dismal response, the makers are now looking to quickly release the film on OTT platforms. Talks are underway with Netflix, and an official announcement on the OTT release is expected by this weekend.
