If there is anyone who can praise or criticize a person or a film in a truly unconventional way, it is Ram Gopal Varma. Even his praise carries an insult, and his criticism often hides admiration. The same approach was evident in his comments on the blockbuster film Dhurandhar.
RGV compared the hugely successful Dhurandhar to a dog — and the comparison was strikingly apt. He said, “When you visit someone’s house, a big, scary dog keeps staring at you. The owner says, ‘Don’t be scared, just ignore it,’ but your tension only increases. You keep watching the dog every second. Dhurandhar is like such a frightening dog. It invisibly roams around every production office, especially those of upcoming big films. Makers try not to even utter its name, but it keeps haunting their minds. Every time their next film releases, that dog bites them.”
Through this metaphor, RGV likened Dhurandhar to a watchdog haunting the film industry. He further remarked that for many filmmakers who rely heavily on item songs and grand graphics, Dhurandhar has become a nightmare — effectively turning into a horror film for them.
Having recently completed a 20-day theatrical run, Dhurandhar has entered the list of the top 10 highest-grossing Indian films of all time. With the latest collections included, the film has earned Rs935 crore worldwide. With the Christmas season boosting footfalls, trade analysts believe Dhurandhar is set to comfortably enter the prestigious Rs1,000-crore club.
