Senior actor Prakash Raj appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the ongoing money laundering investigation related to betting apps. Along with him, several other actors and social media influencers are under the scanner for allegedly promoting these illegal betting platforms.
The ED suspects possible money laundering in this case and has issued notices to 29 individuals so far. Initially, the agency planned to question actor Rana Daggubati, but he requested more time. The ED has now summoned him for questioning on August 11.
Meanwhile, Prakash Raj appeared at the ED office in Basheerbagh today for questioning. He had earlier released a video clarifying his role in the matter, stating that he unknowingly acted in an advertisement and chose not to renew the contract the following year after learning the facts.
The ED is now investigating details such as how much he was paid for that year's contract and in what form the payment was made.
Other celebrities who have received notices are also scheduled to appear before the ED soon. Vijay Deverakonda is expected to appear on August 6, Rana Daggubati on August 11, and Manchu Lakshmi on August 13.
The betting apps scandal has had a tragic impact, particularly in the Telugu states, where many young people have reportedly lost their lives and numerous families have been financially devastated.
