Actress Neetu Chandra has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in Patna High Court against rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, accusing him of portraying women as sex objects in his latest song Maniac. She is demanding a ban on such "vulgar songs" and has also named lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi in the case. A hearing is expected later this month.
In her petition, Neetu argues that the song promotes “overt sexualisation” and misuses the Bhojpuri language to normalize vulgarity, undermining women’s empowerment. She believes such content negatively affects women, making it difficult for them to walk freely in public spaces.
The song Maniac, released on February 22 in collaboration with T-Series and featuring Esha Gupta, has garnered over 7 crore views on YouTube. Neetu urges the government to ban such songs, just as it has restricted alcohol in Bihar.
