Did Shilpa Shetty Leave the Country?

Is actress Shilpa Shetty and her husband Raj Kundra out of the country? This is the hot topic of discussion right now. The reason behind it is the issuance of lookout notices against the couple. The notices were issued by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in connection with a Rs 60-crore fraud case.

So, what exactly happened? Between 2015 and 2023, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra served as directors of a shopping platform company. At that time, the couple held 87.6% stake in the company. With the intention of expanding the business, they approached businessman Deepak Kothari.

Trusting Shilpa Shetty, Deepak invested as much as Rs 60 crore into the company. What’s more, Shilpa herself guaranteed the investment, as she was a director at the time. Consequently, Deepak made the investments in stages.

However, after 2016, Shilpa Shetty stepped down from her directorship. Within months, the company went bankrupt and shut down completely. Since then, the businessman has been trying to recover his money, but without any success.

Realizing there was no other option, he approached the police. Considering the massive amount involved, authorities immediately issued lookout notices against the couple. Until these notices are withdrawn, Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra cannot leave the country.

According to Deepak Kothari’s complaint, the couple initially approached him seeking a loan of Rs 75 crore. They even signed an agreement to pay 12% interest. Later, that loan was converted into an investment. Shilpa Shetty allegedly promised not only repayment but also guaranteed monthly returns. As a result, Deepak gave Rs 60 crore in two installments. However, that money has not been returned to date, he alleges.

Previously, Raj Kundra had run into legal trouble. At that time, Shilpa Shetty’s involvement was minimal, limited mostly to cryptocurrency transactions. This time, however, the allegations are directly against Shilpa Shetty. The businessman claims it was her personal guarantee that convinced him to invest Rs 60 crore in the company.
