Actress Confessed About Gold Smuggling

Kannada actress Ranya Rao has admitted to smuggling 17 gold bars after being caught at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport. She was found carrying 14 kg of gold worth Rs 14.56 crore, making it one of the largest recent gold seizures. Officials flagged her due to frequent trips to Dubai, including four within 15 days.

Ranya, stepdaughter of senior IPS officer Ramachandra Rao, revealed details of her travels across Europe, America, and the Middle East. Investigators suspect she was part of a smuggling network, earning hefty commissions of Rs 4-5 lakh per kg. She allegedly concealed gold in her clothing to evade detection. A raid on her house uncovered more gold jewelry worth Rs 2 crore and Rs 2.67 crore in cash.

Her stepfather denied any involvement, stating they had been estranged since her marriage. Ranya remains in judicial custody and has pledged to cooperate with the investigation.
