SENSEX Today: Markets See Biggest Gain In 4 Years

On May 6, the Sensex and Nifty recorded their largest single-day gains in four years, rising nearly 4% each. This sharp rally added Rs 16 lakh crore to investors’ wealth. Positive global developments like India-Pakistan ceasefire talks, progress in US-China trade relations, and peace discussions between Russia and Ukraine lifted investor sentiment and boosted market confidence.

Sensex jumped 2,975 points to close at 82,429.90, while Nifty surged by 916 points to end at 24,924.70. This was the second-best one-day performance since February 1, 2021. All sectors ended in the green, with Nifty IT rising 6%, Realty 7%, and both Midcap and Smallcap indices climbing over 4%. Even Nifty Pharma, which had started weak, managed to close slightly higher.

The total market capitalization of BSE-listed companies rose from Rs 416.52 lakh crore to Rs 432.47 lakh crore. Experts expect more gains ahead, with support zones seen between 24,400–24,600.
